I signed up for the 2008 Disney World Goofy Challenge, it is the 15th anniversary. The challenge is to run a half marathon on Saturday and a full marathon on Sunday. I may run the 5K on Friday with my wife too. The challenge is limited to the first 3000.

If you are going to run the Goofy Challenge in 2008, you should also run the Disneyland Half in September, so you can have all 4 medals!

Thanks Diva, I will have to see about making a trip to California in September. I don’t know if the $$ will be available. There is also a 5K the day before the WDW half, and they give you a medal for that one too. I may need another piece of luggage to take home the shirts and medals alone!

I just saw that you are running the Goofy Challenge in 2008! I am too, and so is MAT2006 (who I think you also know from many Nike+ challenges). I wonder if Database Diva is running too, and how many other familiar faces from Nike+ will be there?

Hey hmonkey, I don’t think Diva is running it this year. Do you have any accomodations yet? We are still looking, the Royal Plaza at Downtown Disney looks nice, but I’m not sure. I also have a coworker who is going to do the goofy challenge. He actually is getting ready to do the Arizona Ironman in 2 weeks.

MAT2006 (who is my sister) and I belong to Disney’s Vacation Club so we’re thinking of using our club points to stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I’m not sure that it’s the best spot in terms of race logistics but it’s a cool resort. I’ve never stayed at the Royal Plaza but it’s in a good spot – on the border of Disney and regular civilization! I’d just double check to make sure they’ll have busses to the starting area. I’ve never tried to get to the race without the bus system and that’s hard enough — I don’t know how it would be if you were on your own. Maybe better! We’ve both been to Disney a bunch of times and my sister has done the Goofy twice and run the marathon even more than that so she’s a expert on the race logistics if you have any questions….she’d be happy to answer them. Tell your friend Good Luck at Ironman AZ. I am just blown away by how awesome those IM folks are.

thanks hmonkeyruns, the Royal Plaza doesn’t have start line transport. That is pretty big for me, I know how crazy it can be trying to get to the start line at big races. I will have to keep looking. Thanks for the info, any key points or things to expect from the race would be good. Thanks for your help, I know that we will all have a great time!
I agree about competing in an ironman, that is quite the undertaking and grueling competition.
