If you ever get a chance to run a team relay race, it is an adventure and a great time. In 2005 I ran the Wild West Relay with 11 of my coworkers, and it was a blast. It consisted of 36 legs of varying distance, each member ran 3 legs in order. The race was 197 miles and ran from Ft Collins CO to Steamboat Springs CO.
The race spanned country roads, city roads, and wilderness. Through daylight and nighttime, and the crisp morning air. It was a great feeling running across the finish line as a team and knowing that together you covered such a distance together.
You won’t get much sleep during the adventure, but it won’t really matter. We had a blast, and I would recommend anyone that enjoys running, and teamwork to look into running a relay. We are looking at running it again in 2007, but with the 6 member team, so that each member would run 6 legs.
Please post any comments if you have ran a relay race or if you know of a relay race not listed below. There are a variety of relay races listed on websites, Here are some of the ones that I have seen listed at running expos:

Too bad we can’t integrate relay racing into the challenges. Then you would see real teamwork in action! No one wants to let down their team-mate, no matter what the weather! This is where one sees some of the best running one can do!

Due to its proximity to me I’ve had my eye on the Hood to Coast relay. I wonder if we could organize a team and train together using Nike+? We could choose a relay and organize by locations and plan ahead to meet there. It could be a great long-term goal. I would really be into that.

Between the Portland and Seattle teams you could come up with a good relay team. You could post to the bulletin board to see if there are any takers.
